Walk to School Day
October 2, 2019 @ 8:00 am - 9:00 am
Lee County MPO staff attended this event, in cooperation with other area agencies, to promote pedestrian traffic safety. Below is a list of the highlights:
- Tropic Isles Elementary participated in International Walk to School Day on the morning of October 2, 2019. Forty elementary students walked approximately one mile along Orange Grove Blvd.
- A fire truck and two other units from North Fort Myers Fire Department (including Christi Kulwicki), a Lee County Emergency Services unit with paramedics/EMTS (including Captain A.J. Bonacquisti), and two Sheriff’s Deputies (one was Sgt. Konieczki on motor) and one LSCO volunteer participated. Principle Rob Mazzoli and Coach Ryan Lewis were in attendance. Brian Raimondo with Lee County MPO helped coordinate the event on behalf of Safe Kids SWFL and was in attendance. North Fort Myers Neighbor was there too.
- The kids were reminded:
- Look left, right and left again when crossing the street. And continue looking until safely across.
- It’s always best to walk on sidewalks or paths and cross at street corners, using traffic signals and crosswalks.
- Make eye contact with drivers before crossing the street.
- Watch for cars that are turning or backing up. Be especially careful in parking lots or when crossing driveways.
- If you are using a cell phone, head phones or a game, remember: Devices down when you cross the street.
